Torn Between Two, The Moon

Latest signings to Acid Jazz, The Moons come with an authentic rock pedigree. Fronted by Paul Weller's keyboard player Andy Crofts and also featuring Chris Ketley from The Rakes, the band craft soulful slices of a classic English take on rock. Drawing from influences like XTC, The La's and The Specials - the record is far from a retro romp but sits comfortably alongside contemporary pairs like The Coral, The Zutons and The Bees. The Moons came to the attention of the label after Eddie Piller picked up their self financed 45, Don't Go Changing for his award-winning radio show on Q earlier this year. He encouraged the band to go in and record an album, and so The Moons spent a month in Paul Weller's Black Barn studios working on their debut, which is due for release in February 2010. The single Torn Between Two is culled from that album and backed on a limited edition 45 with the Holland Dozier Holland classic Leaving Here (often fertile ground for British bands having previously been interpreted by a diverse crew including Ronnie Wood's Birds and Motorhead). The band are launching the single with an instore at HMV's showcase shop in Oxford Street and are playing a short tour around the country, both on their own and with particular guest slots with both The Rifles and Ocean Colour Scene, as a taster for a 30 date tour in the new year. Tour Dates 2009 18th Oct Liverpool 02 Academy (Rifles Support) 19th Oct Kasbar, Rifles Support (Coventry) 21st Nov Shepherds Bush Empire (OCS Support)

Room 7½, Dot Allison

There’s validation here that Pete Doherty hasn’t lost his way with words. Not so much on his guest appearance, where he sings “I wanna be your man”, a line some old 1960s band already used, but in his description of Dot Allison as “like some gifted child locked in the attic of the music industry”. It’s a attractively expressed image to describe one of those singers who never quite look to have the resources, ambition, thickness of skin or sheer bloody mindedness necessary to habitus up real career momentum. Allison understandably has the talent, and Room 7½’s band, including the PJ Harvey collaborator Rob Ellis and some former Bad Seeds, create a lovely setting for her burly but bewitching voice. Doherty’s guest slot, and one by Paul Weller, add enough variety to counter Allison’s lack of a vocal second gear.

John, Paul, George and Ringo... The Fabber than ever Four

The Beatles were last in a studio together 40 years ago, but they cast a long musical shadow - as Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher will affirm.
And, after the chart success of 2003's Let It Be... Naked and 2006's Love, this autumn will see yet another wave of Beatlemania.
The group's absolutely back catalogue has been digitally remastered for the first time.
As well as their 12 studio LPs, from Please Please Me to Let It Be, two other albums are being re-released: the soundtrack to Magical Mystery Tour and the Past Masters anthology.

All the albums are being made available apart, although there are also two CD boxed sets one in stereo, the other mono for collectors.
At the moment, there is still no deal for downloads in place, but it is absolutely only a matter of time before The Beatles are for sale online, too.
Remastering almost nine hours of music took four years. And while the overall adaptation in sound quality are subtle more prominent handclaps on Eight Days A Week, crisper guitars on Yesterday, cleaner drums on Sgt. Pepper a playback at Abbey Road was enough to assure me that The Fab Four have never sounded better.
The Abbey Road engineers, who liberated the master tapes from a steel vault, have removed electrical clicks, microphone 'pops' and hiss while preserving the integrity of the original recordings.
For them, the process was difficult by the fact the first four Beatles LPs were originally in mono while the later ones were stereo.
But, with each refunded CD containing new liner notes, photos and a brief documentary, the remasters should absord old fans (without messing too much with treasured memories) while providing a superb introduction to newcomers.
What ultimately shines through is just how compelling The Beatles were in the first place.
From the raw energy of their early hits to the technically cultivated Abbey Road, they were extra less than fab.

Paul Weller door is ajar for Jam

THE JAM getting back together of THE tantalising prospect has inched closer to reality.
WHO gig in 2006 the Bruce and Mod father Paul were reunited and they have stayed pals and are now working together again.
The duo have been recording demos at Paul's studio in Woking, Surrey for the Brit-winner's next solo album which is due next spring.
I’m told: “Paul and Bruce get and well now. It didn’t take that after met each other again long for them to re-establish their closeness.
The Jam's success in the John Weller was instrumental. "Bruce attended Paul's father's funeral in May.
"Following that, Paul decided to invite Bruce to his studio to give on some ideas."
Hence the Bruce said that "never, ever happen "Paul hearing this would mean a total change of his mind, who in the past has said it would "never, ever happen".
He added: "My children would have to be destitute and starving in the gutter before I'd even consider it."

Paul Weller Winter Tour - More Info

OK, folks. We are still wary to re-post the expected (rumored) Paul Weller Winter Tour dates as they still have yet to be confirmed. Numerous people have phoned Bookings Direct and have been told the tickets will go on sale July 8. Throughout the day, there have been reports that some dates have shown up on the ticket site, but disappear just as fast. To be honest, we just don't know. It's been a crazy couple of days trying to get the correct info for you. I'm looking at the site now and there is no listing for Paul Weller. So, I'm sure there will be all sorts of speculation until we get to July 8th or we are lucky enough to have an official announcement before then. At any rate, all this excitement for concerts scheduled to take place five months from now is a true testament to the dedication that our faithful readers have for Paul.

As always, if we hear anything concrete, we'll let you know.

Paul Weller To Appear In Island Records Documentary On The BBC!

June 5, 2009 Friday, 21:00 on BBC Four: Damien Lewis narrates this documentary telling the colourful story of Island Records, the Jamaican-founded record label built by maverick boss Chris Blackwell which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2009.

The film features a rare, in-depth interview with Blackwell alongside contributions from former Island artists Grace Jones, Toots Hibbert, Amy Winehouse, Sly and Robbie, PJ Harvey, U2, Brian Eno, Spencer Davis, Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens, the B52s, Kid Creole, Greg Lake, Ian Anderson, Trevor Horn, Paul Weller, Richard Thompson and Keane.

News archive and rare performance footage are used to tell the story of the label - its part in bringing reggae music into the world; its expansion into progressive rock in the late 1960s; the rise of Bob Marley into a global star; and the label's reputation for consistently signing, producing and championing innovative acts from the UK and all over the world.

BOOKIES LOSE £100K ON PAUL WELLER BETTING 'SCAM'

British bookmakers lost around £100,000 after a flurry of betting suggested Paul Weller's name had been leaked as a Brit winner.

Leading bookmakers stopped taking bets on this year's Brits awards after a number of £50 bets were placed on Paul Weller to win the best solo male award at several William Hill outlets in London within a short space of time.

William Hill, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Tote were among the bookmakers to suspended betting on the music awards ceremony but around £100,000 was still lost in the industry...

Seven men placed bets in London and Guilford, close to Weller's birthplace in Woking, raising suspicion that the leak may have come from the pre-recorded interview carried out for the Jam star's Brit acceptance speech.

"It was our music department's worst night for years," the spokesman said. "It's highly unlikely we'll be betting on the Brits again as there is no doubt the results are circulating up to a week before.

"The fact Paul's' interview was pre-recorded suggests people had been tipped off," the spokesman continued.

William Hill bosses stressed they do not believe Weller had any involvement in the scam.

Samantha Stock, who was with the British rocker for 13 years, is expecting a depressing Christmas for her and the couple's two children - Jesamine and Stevie - since their split was announced at the weekend.

Stock, 38, said: "It's very sad - particularly at Christmas and with the children."

Weller, 50, has left the couple's London home, in the Maida Vale district, and has moved in with backing singer Hannah Andrews, 23, who lives in the same area.

A source said: "Paul worked very closely with Hannah. They discovered they have a lot in common musically and personally, despite the age gap. They have lived together for around a month."

A spokeswoman for Weller said: "It's a very sad and unfortunate situation that their marriage has broken down."

Paul Weller 'You Do Something To Me' Lyrics

You do something to me
Something deep inside
I'm hanging on the wire
For love I'll never find
You do something wonderful
Chase it all away
Mixing my emotions
Throws me back again

Hanging on the wire yeah
I'm waiting for my change
I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
Feel real again

Hanging on the wire
Said I'm waiting for the change
Oh I'm dancing through the fire
Just to catch a flame
Feel real again

You do something to me
Somewhere deep inside
Hoping to get close to me
A peace I cannot find

Dancing through the fire yeah
Just to catch a flame
Just to get close to
Just close enough
To tell you that.....

You do something to me - something deep inside

Introduction to Paul Weller

Paul Weller has epitomized different characteristics of pop traditions over the years. To anyone with an eye for the Mod cloth, he has been a fashion icon. To thirty-something fans of The Jam, he fronted the most thrilling and vital band since the 1960s (or ever, for that matter). Paul Weller has taken benefit by the nickname of the Modfather, a term which reflects his near - lifetime passion for the Sixties cult which has infused parts of his image and his music.
The Jam were Mod, in the very English sense of mid - Sixties, The Who or The Kinks. The Style Council were Mod in the very multi-ethnic sense of modern jazz. Paul Weller solo is Mod in the brains of a post - Acid Jazz dance and a late Sixties Small Faces vibe. He has come to symbolize a very British style of rock which transcends age and easy arrangement. Paul Weller’s thirty year career shows an unusual scenario. By his own admission, he keeps on to emulate his musical heroes, a mixture of Sixties (Mod) icons - Steve Marriott, Pete Townsend, Ray Davis, and soul legends Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield
